Planning a wedding is tough at the best of times, without the strict pandemic restrictions.
Social distancing rules have forced brides and grooms to cut down their guest list in order to go ahead with the big day.
But one wedding guest has been slammed for her “immature behaviour” after she wasn’t given an invite for her plus one.
The woman known as ‘Aunt Edith’ refused to attend her niece’s wedding after her partner’s name was missing from her invitation.
But instead of saying she’ll come anyway, or simply ticking the ‘decline’ box, she scribbled all over the card in capital letters and added her boyfriend ‘Danny’ to the invite.
She wrote: “MOST RUDE! AND HURTFUL! FAMILY SHOULDN’T [SEPARATE] FAMILY!” before adding: “YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE SENT ONE AT ALL!” at the bottom.
After receiving the RSVP, the bride posted a picture of it on Reddit, where she wrote: “All because I didn’t put her boyfriend’s name on the invite.”
The bride’s maid of honour later explained who ‘Uncle Danny’ actually was, in response to confused Reddit users comments.
After explaining that Aunt Edith is the groom’s aunt and that she had been dating Danny for two years, she said: “Danny has played no significant role in their lives, they have met this man a handful of times.
“Danny is unpleasant and tolerated at best. They do not see him as an uncle.”
She then said that all guests were told prior to the invites being sent out that numbers were “reduced to bare bones due to covid restrictions”.
She concluded her post by saying: “The fact is, Edith and Danny are grown adults in their 50s who are acting like spoiled children. Let the trash take itself out, I say.”
Since being posted to Reddit, users were stunned by the aunt’s response, with one person saying: “Dang what a drama queen.”
Another wrote: “It’s your wedding sweetie. She would not help you celebrate. Good riddance. I hope you have the best day with people who love and support you.”
While a third said: “Yikes. I guess politely declining wasn’t an option to her?!?”
“Well, with that kind of immature behaviour, do you really want them there?” added another person.
